Signing Up

Profile completion

It is recommended you have a complete profile before you book or offer a ride. This makes both parties more comfortable and better able to insure compatibility and safety. Please add a clear and recent photo, without sunglasses or a hat (unless you always wear a hat). Please include some information about yourself, especially any information that would be particularly relevant to a passenger/driver, such as animal or food allergies, strong music preferences, coffee stop requirements, etc.

How do I create an account?

To sign up for Hchhkr, click the "Sign Up" link in the top right corner of our website if you are using a web browser, or in the menu of our app. Then fill in your details manually or automatically by syncing with Facebook (you must already have a Facebook account). We will never sell your information or use it for anything other than the use of our app.

Offering A Ride

To offer a ride, click "Offer Ride" in the menu on the homepage (upper right part of website). If you're in the app, click "Offer Ride" in the sidebar menu. From here, login (if you haven't already) and then fill out the form with your ride details. A suggested price will automatically be generated. If you want to alter it, click the plus or minus next to the price if on the app, if you're on the website click "Calculate Price" and a dialog will appear allowing you to reduce or increase the price. Select your car (make sure you've already added it on your profile). Be sure to enter any relevant details about the ride in the "further details" box, plus an accurate selection for luggage size, leaving time, etc. Be ready to show your valid driver's license and insurance if a passenger asks (it is their right to see it and refusal is grounds for fair ride cancellation).

Booking A Ride

How do I book a ride?

Fill in the "To" and "From" fields on the homepage of the website, or the "Hitch A Ride" page on the app. Then, enter a preferred date for your ride and hit "Search" when you're done. If a ride is available, it will then be listed. Click it to proceed to booking. If no ride is available, you will be prompted to create an email alert, which will notify you if a ride becomes available.
